Business Problem

The inspection department in the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MOHRE) in the UAE aims at guaranteeing that both employers and employees in the country are aware of theirlabourrights and have the freedom to exercise them. This is achieve by doing more than one type of inspections. The objective of the inspection department is to make sure that no violations are done by employers regarding their employees and if so, fines are levied on the organization who don’t comply. These problem range from poor working condition, to unpaid or deducted salaries, long working hours, and other wrong doing which were against the labour rights as set by the Ministry. The major problem faced by MOHRE was the limited number of inspectors available and the number of organization that the inspection department had to monitor.

SOLUTIONS

The problem was addressed by the introduction of SIS and by its integration with multiple internal systems within the MOHRE (Wage Protection System, labour card system, etc.) to provide a consolidated view of the human resources in UAE and risk level of establishment’s employees these resources. With this, the inspection department was able to prioritize its inspections tasks towards high-risk establishments. The aim was to reach a state when the inspection department can put together strategies to reduce risk levels of all establishments, by making sure employers and employees are exercising their labour rights.

We have 369,880 establishments registered with the ministry, over four million people to review and only 400 inspection officers. It was not feasible or efficient to inspect every single organization and this system has been able to address all this effectively
